WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1997--

Voice-enabled clinical reporting system with medical specialty knowledge bases combines user-input flexibility and real-time editing with structured reporting

Kurzweil Applied Intelligence, Inc. (NASDAQ:KURZ) today announced Kurzweil Clinical Reporter(TM) V1.1, for Windows 95 and Windows NT(TM). Kurzweil Clinical Reporter is a versatile, intelligent and easy-to-use clinical reporting system that can reduce medical transcription costs, increase reimbursement revenues and reduce liability risk. New features in version 1.1 include an advanced user interface that allows the clinician to search one window for information, while simultaneously dictating into the main report window, and a required fields feature whereby each site can designate required fields in each report, so that certain data elements are captured every time. This capability allows each institution to ensure consistency during the charting process, to capture significant information to meet practice guidelines, and to meet insurance or billing requirements for documentation.

Kurzweil Clinical Reporter integrates medical knowledge bases, a structured report generator and the award-winning Kurzweil VOICE(TM) for Windows for an interactive approach to collecting patient data and producing medical reports. The clinician is presented with an appropriate set of questions to answer and Kurzweil Clinical Reporter supplies text and guides the user through the entire process of producing a comprehensive patient report. This methodology enables the complete and consistent recording of patient encounter information. Designated information can then be extracted for use in clinical databases and clinical data repositories.

"With Version 1.1 of Kurzweil Clinical Reporter, clinicians have even more powerful tools to ensure the quality, accessibility and reduced cost of clinical reports," said Jonathan A. Bower, Kurzweil AI's director of product management. "We work in collaboration with our users to develop the specialty knowledge bases that provide the intelligence and structure that will give them the highest quality reports in the least time."
